Frequently Asked Questions

01

How do I verify this is the punch I need?

  • Check the stamp or engraving on your punch for a part number or other identifying marks and compare it with the cross reference above.
  • Measure your punch, including the overall length, body diameter, and head diameter then verify those dimensions with the dimensions listed above or in the image.
  • Verify the machine make and model. Shop punches for your specific machine by using the sidebar filters on our store.
  • If you're still unsure, contact our team and we will help identify the punch.
02

What is the largest F16 round hole size I can punch?

The largest round hole that can be punched with a F16 Round Punch is 1-1/8" diameter.

If you need a larger hole, oversized punching attachments or other punch styles may be required depending on your ironworker machine. Contact us if you need help selecting the right tooling.

03

What is the corresponding die for a F16 round punch?

  • F16 punches are most commonly paired with F55 and F59 round dies.
  • Check the stamp or engraving on your die for a part number or other identifying marks.
  • Measure the outer diameter and height of your die then verify those dimensions with die dimensions listed in our online store or catalog.
  • If you're still unsure, contact our customer support team and we will help identify the correct die.
04

How do I determine the correct punch and die clearance?

The proper die clearance depends on the type and thickness of the material you're punching. Softer, thinner materials require less clearance, while harder, thicker materials require more. Use the clearance chart above to determine whether to add 1/32", 1/16", 3/32", or 1/8" to your punch diameter when selecting a die.

05

How do I get the longest life out of my punch?

To maximize punch life:

  • Apply Punch-Easy® lubricant every 5–10 punches
  • Use the correct punch and die clearance for your material.
  • Make sure the punch stripper fully contacts the material while punching.
  • Never punch material that is thicker than the diameter of the punch.

Following these guidelines will help reduce wear and extend the life of both your punch and die.
